Make LibreOffice Perform Better in GNOME Wayland (Linux)

Recently I had this problem in LibreOffice Writer where I would scroll and the whole program would just lockup, the only workaround was to wait or resize the window. As it was related to graphics, after looking through the settings, I disabled the “Java runtime environment” and the issue is gone! This may help those on Xorg as well but I’ve only tried it on Wayland with GNOME 3.36.

If you’re having the same problem, in LibreOffice click on “Tools” -> “Options” and then “Advanced“. Alternatively, just press ALT + F12. Then simply uncheck “Use a Java runtime environment” and hit apply, it’ll prompt you to restart LibreOffice and that should be it.

I’m using LibreOffice 6.4.2.2 on Fedora 32 (at the time of writing this article).
